A Natural Greenery Celebration Over the Ocean in Cascais

Nina & Gary

May 2019

Perched directly above the Atlantic coastline, Arriba in Cascais offered an extraordinary setting for Nina and Gary’s spring celebration. With uninterrupted ocean views and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, the venue became more than a backdrop. It  shaped the entire rhythm of the day.

From the outset, the intention was clear: a celebration that felt natural, relaxed, and deeply connected to its surroundings. Every choice was made to enhance the experience of being by the sea, allowing nature to remain present at every moment.

Preparations began at The Oitavos, where the morning unfolded calmly for the couple and their guests, all of whom had traveled from abroad to celebrate together. With no urgency or strict pacing, the day moved gently toward Arriba, where everything would take place, creating a seamless flow from arrival to farewell.

The ceremony took place on the terrace, set directly above the ocean. With the horizon stretching endlessly ahead, the setting created a sense of openness and stillness, grounding the moment in both place and presence. The sound of the sea accompanied the ceremony naturally, reinforcing the connection between the celebration and its surroundings.

Following the ceremony, guests moved effortlessly to the upper terrace for cocktail hour. Surrounded by expansive views and soft spring light, the atmosphere encouraged conversation, movement, and ease. For many guests, it was a setting unlike anything they had experienced before, striking yet unpretentious, celebratory yet calm.

Dinner unfolded indoors within a glass-enclosed space, allowing the ocean to remain visually present as daylight slowly shifted into sunset. Design choices were intentionally restrained, allowing the venue to lead. Abundant greenery took center stage, with a large installation suspended from the ceiling and pampas accents running through the tables. Rather than competing with the landscape, the design felt integrated, adding texture and warmth while respecting the power of the setting itself.

As the sun lowered, dinner became one of the day’s most memorable moments. Bathed in golden light, the space felt both intimate and expansive, holding guests in a shared pause before the evening’s energy naturally lifted again.

The transition from dinner to celebration was effortless. In the same space, music filled the room and the atmosphere shifted into a lively, joyful party. With a DJ guiding the night, laughter and movement carried on well into the evening, the ocean just beyond the glass as a constant presence.

What made the day truly special was not a single moment, but the way everything flowed together, from ceremony to cocktails, from sunset to celebration. With complete trust from the couple and thoughtful coordination throughout, the experience felt seamless, allowing Nina and Gary to be fully present with their guests.

Grounded in nature, shaped by light, and surrounded by the sea, this celebration in Cascais was a reflection of ease, intention, and the quiet power of place.
